Things to Keep in Mind While Buying Plants from Nursery

People fond of gardening often buy plants from the nursery, but as soon as they bring them home, the plants either start turning yellow or dry up after some time. While buying plants from the nursery, what things should be kept in mind, let’s understand it in 10 points...
- Whatever plant you buy, check whether new leaves are coming out or not. This shows whether the plant is growing or not. If new leaves are coming, it means the plant is growing. Such a plant is worth buying.
- Do not buy a plant whose leaves are slightly wilted, dry from the edges, torn, eaten by insects, or turning yellow.
- Always buy small plants because their growth is faster and their price is also lower compared to big plants. You can also prune them to give the desired shape, but this is not possible with bigger plants.
- While buying grafted plants, keep in mind that the grafted area should be 4 to 6 inches above the soil. If the grafted area is close to the soil, there is a risk of infection in the plant.
- Select a plant in which more than one stem is coming out from the pot or grow bag. Later, these can be separated to prepare more than one plant.
- If you want to enjoy seasonal flowers for a long time, always buy a plant full of small buds. Often, some people bring home plants full of flowers. Never make such a mistake. Plants that already have too many flowers lose the possibility of blooming later.
- While buying seasonal plants, make sure the plant is not over-date because after the season ends, plants start drying up after some time.
- Turn the leaves over and check carefully because sometimes tiny insects are stuck on the back. Also, check properly the part of the stem from where leaves sprout. Many times, some white or black powder-like substance gets accumulated there. This is a kind of fungus, which destroys the entire plant after a few days.
- While buying a plant, keep in mind that if the roots are coming out of the drainage hole of the pot, never buy such a plant because such plants usually have the problem of root rot.
- Instead of buying a plant with only one or two branches, give preference to the one with more branches because such plants become bushier quickly.
